The Uganda -Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo Cross Border- Market Scan, 2017
Between Uganda and Eastern DRC, trade has been increasing progressively over the years. Overall, export statistics between Uganda-DRC depict a growing trend. Political instability in DRC continues to de-link the East from Kinshasa, creating an upsurge of demand for commodities along the Uganda DRC border. A review of goods traded between the two countries reveals that DRC is a big supplier to Uganda of several primary products. DRC was ranked as Uganda’s second largest import source with in the COMESA region after Kenya in 2016. Major products imported from DRC over a period 2012-2016 included iron steel,wood and wood articles, minerals, essential oils, coffee, maize grain and vegetable or animal oils. these products are often used as inputs in industries in Uganda
